SML launches demonstration line for 2mm-thick PET sheet

SML has recently unveiled a new demonstration line which aims to produce highly recyclable and thicker PET sheets.

This was in response to the demand of the market for more environmentally acceptable raw materials, and to keep up with the trend towards larger clear cups and trays for food packaging.

The demonstration line also features a CO2 gas injection system and an IR-lamination system.

The demonstration line is ready for trials at SML’s headquarters in Lenzing, Austria.

Coveris purchases two lines from Gelpack

Coveris has reached an agreement with Gelpack to purchase two Hosokawa Alpine coextrusion lines, following Gelpack’s fall into administration earlier this month.

Coveris has already started planning for the integration of the two lines by setting up a centre of excellence in Winsford, Cheshire.

The introduction of the new machines will add 5,000 tonnes to the company’s five-layer coextrusion capacity.

Blown Film Technology for Bio Materials at SmartFlex line in France

A new law entered into force in France in 2016 prohibiting the distribution and selling of non-biodegradable-polyethylene-based disposable bags. The thickness of disposable bags cannot be lower than 50 microns. 
A French converter, Smartflex_bio_france consequently decided to invest in purchasing of a Bandera SmartFlex Bio line for the production of compostable and biodegradable bags. This line can produce lamination, thermo-shrink, general and converting film besides biodegradable film.

Open house Blown Film technology offers PE film with high production

Bandera acquired a TechnoFlex PO5 line in Turkey, with the chance of cooperating with a major converter in the international and local flexible packaging market. The TechnoFlex PO5 line will face a crucial challenge with Somplast Plastik, an exclusive agent of Bandera. 
In Busto Arsizio, Bandera will present the line before the commissioning at the customer plant in the R&D centre, during a dedicated open house. It will be held from November 28th to December 1st 2017.

Treofan installing high-performance coater

Treofan Group installs a new €7.5 million high-performance coater at its Battipaglia site in Italy. The machine will add 4,000MT of specialty films with a variety of coating to the plant’s capacity upon the completion of its installation in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Treofan’s Brückner orientation line doubles Mexican plant’s capacity

Treofan, a leading BOPP manufacturer, invests $45 million in a five-layer, 10.4m Brückner orientation line at its plant in Zacapu, Mexico. The line will increase capacity by 50% or around 30,000 tonnes per year and it will be operational near the end of 2018.

 

.Jon Knight, Chief Executive of Treofan Americas, said that the investment is the next phase of Treofan’s reinvestment strategy which started in 2014 at their plant in Neunkirchen, Germany. He added that the additional capacity will continue their growth in key markets.
